I need info beagles… my 5yr daughter has mild allergies but her and her 3yr old sister have been begging us for a puppy. Are they good for someone who has mild allergies? What about pocket beagles? I would like a dog to stay kinda small, but are they harder to potty train?

Beagles are very active dogs and need lots of exercise and a fenced yard. They were bred as hunting dogs and will run off and follow their nose if not properly trained. They come in two sizes-13 inch and 15 inch, there is no such thing as a “pocket” beagle. If a breeder tells you there is-run, this is not a reputable breeder. These dogs are wonderful with children. My first dog was a beagle, and he allowed me to dress him in doll clothes and push him in my doll stroller. He was also used as a hunting dog and won field trials. As for the allergies, they do shed and you will have to keep him brushed and bathed. I would brush him daily, but I wouldn’t bathe him more than every 6-8 weeks. There are other breeds of dogs that are small and are low shedding or non shedding that may be a better choice for your family. I suggest that you take the meet you match quiz on this site and check out the breed center.

I would recommend thinking about a miniature schnauzer. My brother and I both have allergies and that is the breed of dog that we both have. They don’t shed, but do have to be groomed aproximately every 5-6 weeks. They are great family dogs. Look up the breed description on this website… it is very accurate.

first of all there is no such thing as pocket beagles. if anyone tries to sell them stay away! second, beagles are not good for people with alergies of any kind. poodle mixes (even with beagles )would be better but not always successful. shih tzu, maltese, schnauzer, bichon mixes are also good choices.

also make sure you are getting a dog when you are ready not when your kids want one. if you are not ready or do not want one the dog will be resented and unwanted. the dog will know your feelings about him and may become distructive

you want to go with a nonshedding breed like snauzer or poodle.

I do lots of rescue and have a snauzer terrier mix who loves kids and is hypoallergenic. She’s great housebroken and the sweetest little girl you’ll ever meet. She’s about 30 pounds and is low key she will play when played with and be a couch potatoe when you are. l can arrange transport to your area just let me know and i’ll get you an app. if interested let’s talk.

Beagles are active companions for kids and adults alike. They are merry and fun loving, but being hounds, they can also be stubborn and require patient, creative training techniques.

Beagles are very loving, friendly and playful. Having a short coat, i can say that your child is safe with it. To learn more, here’s the link.
