Hi, well I´m going to be a new dog owner in the next weeks just choosing my correct companion. I live in Germany where I run my own company and I havevery flexible hours, also I have a big house and garden. What stopped me from getting a dog was that I was afraid that he would be bored. But I have been reading on this site and other sites so I´m pretty upbeat. The breed that I´m choosing is a Yellow Labrador, But I have one question.. 1-2 weeks to begin with off for the dog.. is that sufficient?? I active outdoors and 32 years old and single, that should be ok? :)

What an exciting time for you!

It sounds like you have an ideal situation to add a dog to your life. And the fact that you are taking the time to ask the important questions above indicate that you’ll be a conscientious and thoughtful owner.

Dogs do require companionship and exercise, but not constant entertainment. A young Labrador will require a long walk and/or a game of fetch daily, and your dog will most likely thrive being able to go to work with you.

Just remember to also teach your dog how to enjoy his or her alone-time from the very beginning, because inevitably there will be times when you’ll have to leave the dog behind. Here is a link that explains in more detail:

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes. When choosing a pup try to stay away from extremes in personality – not the boldest pup but not the one that hangs back shyly or in a disinterested way. Maybe post a picture of your new pup when you get him or her.

hi,

to know what type of dog will suit you, you can use this dog finder match up http://dogtime.com/matchup/start

the goal here is to help you figure out what type of dog best suits you and your personality. The results of the match up will suggest certain breeds.

hope this helps

First of, CONGRATS!!

I’m glad that you are deeply considering all the factors of being a dog owner, and like above, that you are asking valuable questions, etc. Bringing a dog home is an exciting and new experience for you, and I hope you enjoy the special bond between you and your dog.
