Besides the obvious, what are important features when boarding your dog at a kennel? I have found some where the dogs are kept in individual runs and taken outside by themselves while others board the dogs together and go out together, and everything in between. My vet also boards dogs, but they keep them in crates except for potty trips. What would be the least traumatic for a dog?

I think it depends on the dog….personally, I would never leave our pup at a kennel again, but that’s because our girl freaks out in relatively small areas, especially when we’re not with her.

Instead, I suggest looking for an open doggie care facility, similar to this one: www.thedogranch.com. I know it may not be near where you live, but it gives you an idea for what to look for. And when you find a place that you like, check out Yelp.com for honest testimonials from past clients.

Some dogs don’t do well alone at home for lengthy periods; they get bored and destructive, or they suffer from separation anxiety.
