My puppy loves to chew on everything but her kongs for whatever reason. I follow the kong stuffing receipe that Dr. Dunbar suggests but all she does is lick the opening. When the kibble stops falling out after licking it, she doesn’t bother to chew on it to work the rest out. I’ve tried to stuff the kongs really loose and also tried to show her that squishing the kong makes more food come out but she either doesn’t get it or doesn’t care. I also got her two different sizes in case that was the problem. I have no idea why she doesn’t chew them. She hates being alone in her pen and freaks out so I would love it if she could start enjoying her kongs. How can I get her to start actually chewing the kongs? I would love any suggestions. Thank you! |

Kongs are certainly great, but depending on the age of your pup it is possible that teething pain makes it too painful or dificult to chew on the kong itself..they are pretty tough rubber. |

I considered that too until I saw her chewing on my rod iron table! She’s really funny in that she loves chewing everything even things with bitter apple spray on it but not kongs. The problem is she will chew most things for no more than 5 minutes except for the things she’s not really allowed to chew unsupervised such as a stuffed animal. I probably have the only dog that doesn’t go nuts for a stuffed kong! I even tried a stuffed Kong biscuit ball but again she just gives up on it once it becomes an effort to get the food out. |

My shih tzu is like that to we got her a kong and tried putting that treat stuff in the middle nothing she didn’t want it and to this day that is the only toy she won’t play with. Try giving him a chicken basted huge bone I did that with Emmy and not only did it occupy her but it kept her from chewing on things and she has a toy that sound like a plastic bag that she goes crazy over her you will just half to try different things to see whick one will work becaue Emmy and my new puppy does not like the kong they like bones and things that sound like paper or plastic. |

I’m sorry I forgot another thing my trainer had me do to is put them on their leash because you never want to displine with you hands or feet so you use the leash when he starts chewing on things grab ahold of the leash and give it a sharp tug and say LEAVE IT really quick and sound like you mean it and eventually they will stay away from it becaue I know my Emmy hates it when I had to tug on her leash she hated it so try that. |

Thanks for the advice. Maybe you’re right that I can’t force her to like something that she just doesn’t like. I’ll try to stuff some bones instead and also try the leash corrections with all the other bad stuff she likes to chew (except Kongs of course!). Thanks! |
