My 10 month old Maltese has been trained to use the potty outside however she still has a lot of accidents because she is not watched all the time when she is out of her kennel. This is due to other family members not wanting to keep her in the kennel when they arn’t watching her. Any way what I was asking is, is it a good idea to retrain her to potty on paper instead of outside. |

There is good news and bad news. |

Kelly is absolutely correct. Too bad your family doesn’t understand that they are holding the pup back by their behaviour. I do hope they don’t punish her accidents, as they are the fault of the humans here, not the pup. Maybe you should have them read this thread. |

would it confuse the dog if we tried to retrain her to use the pad |
|
No, she could learn. But whatever you decide to teach her it is important to be consistent. Basically you are teaching her to target a certain substrate to use for a toilet area. She can learn to use a litter box with pads or natural litter material in the house and will most likely still use the grass when she’s outside. You may also want to look into PuppyMaid’s auto training device or the Pet Loo for indoors. |

What is the PuppyMaid’s auto training device and the Pet Loo for indoors. |
|
They are indoor toilets for dogs. If you search them on google you’ll find them, and many more. Pet-a-potty is another good one. |

Any tips on how to go about retraining my maltese to potty on paper or in these indoor dog toilets |
|
Same as basic house training but focus on the playpen with appropriate toilet instead of taking her outside. Here’s the page: |
