Please help! I have a 4 month old puppy who has for the past 2 weeks refuse to poop outside at her spot. She actually holds it until we bring her back in and no sooner do we bring her in she goes. |

you gotta force her keep her outside for a little while or a hour adn let her play and eat soon she’ll have to poop if she scraches on the door just go away until shegoes poop. Besides you gotta train her she’s four months old she’s just a little baby |

Has she gone outside previously and just in the last 2 weeks started this behavior? Is she on a regular schedule? Is she crate trained? When I was potty trained my dogs I always kept them on the same schedule. I have always taken them outside right after they have eaten and told them (don’t laugh) peepeee/poopoo (well go ahead and laugh-I know it sounds goofy) and stayed with them as long as it took. If for some reason I couldn’t stay with them the entire time, and they hadn’t done their business, when they came back in the house they went directly to their crate until I could take them out again. I never left them outside by themselves when potty training and when they did peepee/poopoo I made a BIG deal over it. I know my neighbors thought I was nuts when they heard me saying GOOD DOG, peepee/poopoo outside and playing with them praising them the entire time. Also if they did have an accident inside I would take it outside in they yard where I wanted them to go. Until they were totally trained I would always leave one pile of poo in the yard where I wanted them to go. When she comes inside and you see that little sniff /circle dance take her out right then and stay with her until she goes then praise her. One more thing, make sure you get a good pet stain odor remover with enzymes to clean up where she goes in the house. Even though we can’t smell it, she can, and as long as she smells it, she will think it’s ok to go there. This has worked for me, even with an adult dog I adopted, I hope it helps you. Good luck. |

HI. I agree that you need to wait for him to poo and that a schedule that is regular really helps. It takes patience and a lot of standing around but he will have to poo eventually! Make sure you reward him as soon as he goes and reward him handsomely! |

Hi, I agree with the folks about have a strick schedule with your pup. I am curious though has she done her business outside before this? Hmm, maybe something scared her. Is she peeing outside? Like Tailspin says, NEVER YELL at your dog for eliminating in the house. If you catch him “in the act” quickly take him outside. If it is after the fact, just pick up your pup nonchalantly and take him outside. Be sure to clean up the mess with something that breaks down the enzymes, like Nature’s Miracle, because even though you cleaned it, the dog nose can still smell the remains and that’s why you need to break up the enzymes in the pee or poo. Please don’t tie your dog outside my himself either. As they say, “Tied to a tree is no place to be.” Be out there with him so you can praise him for his good work. Sometimes all it may take is a little play time and sniffing around for awhile after eating to “stir up the juices” and getting them to go. However, never, ever, work a dog or pup hard after eating a meal. It may cause bloat and this can be fatal. And remember, patience my friend. |
