I have a sweet little Italian Greyhound. Her name is Isabella. She is 7 months old and I want to get her spayed as soon as possible. I want to take her some where I know she will be taken care of but not some where that is going to break the bank. I was quoted $360 at my vet and I hope that this isn’t that average price for that kind of procedure. If you know any places that are reliable and will spay my dog I would greatly appreciate the advice. |

I’ll admit that the quoted price sounds a little steep. There may be animal shelters and clinics in your area that would do it cheaper. But since your dog is an Italian Greyhound, I think I’d go with the original vet. The thing is that sighthounds don’t process anesthesia like other dogs because of the profound lack of body fat. So someone who isn’t really familiar with doing surgery on sighthounds might end up killing your dog. That may be why the vet’s quote was so high, because they know that they’ll have to take special precautions with sighthounds. It won’t just be a standard knock-em-out, slice-em-open, whack-it-out, sew-em-up, OK-next-dog routine spay. |

I’m getting my puppy done next week and it is 84.00 with a 25.00 coupon all our local vets give out as an incentive to get them done. I’ve had several done and never paid over 100 and that was for my lab as she was larger. The local animal protection leagues charge 50.00 and that is for anyone. They take a vanload every 6 weeks from my town to the nearest one 60 miles away. but as my vet is only going to end up being 59.00 I’m sticking with them. |
