We were given a pug puppy that is between three and four months old. He was left alone quite a bit. He hasn’t worn a collar until now. Well, I put one on him and he screams like a stuck pig! He scared us to death. lol I tried laying in on his neck while I was holding him to get used to the feel but I have never dealt with this before.

lol! like a stuck pig, huh…anyway, i would presume that you haven’t introduced a leash to your dog since he wouldn’t want a collar? How long is the collar? I read that you have to consider the width, the length and the tightness in choosing a collar. There are even several types of these which are designed whther the dog’s pulling on a leash or not.

Try checking out this link for some more information. might just give you some help:

Hey Mommabear,
I hope you have resolved this problem, since it’s been a few days. When you put the collar on your puppy, did you try also walking her or were you just putting on the collar? If I were you, I would put the collar around the house and leave it for a few minutes, increasing the time you leave it on each time. Maybe even give her treats when you do, so he associates the collar with good things and try to ignore the screaming he does.
Another idea, if you are trying to take the dog out for a walk is to go collar free by using an English slip lead around his neck without a collar. It really depends on what your first objective is. Hope this helps!
