Yes, my pup is a poop-eater, and natural behavior or not, I’m just not as enthusiastic about those puppy kisses as I used to be.

Anyone tried those products you put in their food that’s supposed to make their poop taste gross? Did it really break them of the habit? Any brand recommendations?

I saw on one of the other topics someone said mixing I think a tablespoon of pumpkin in their food everyday makes their poop taste bad to them so they won’t eat it. It’s worth a try, and probably much cheaper and more nutritious than something you’d buy at a pet store.

Here, I found the post:

You should try a spray collar with a romote. Every time the dog try to eat it’s waste you press a button that sprays water or another dog safe liquid in their face. Or you can try changing his diet. Dogs sometimes eat poop when they are lacking something in their diet. Or just clean up his poop more often. That way he does not get a chance to eat it.

I LOVE the spray collar idea! I’ve never heard of that before. Do you know where I could purchase one?

I also heard that feeding them pineapple with their food helps deter this behavior.

Ah… that is gross.

Fortunately, i think puppies grow out of eating poop. I know my dog used to eat the cat poop out of the litter box. His trainer told me that this was natural since cat poop was so nutritious. Even still it grossed me out! so, what I did is simply not let him near the litter box. He grew out of it in a month.

Same goes for outside, I just didn’t let him go nears poop if it was left on the sidewalk by some inconsiderate pet owner.

Now he’s avoids poop all the time.
