I had this same problem. . . It seemed like there was no alternative except to spend alot of money on an exterinator. But I spoke with an exterminator and this is what he told me.

You can go to google and google search “do it yourself pest control”. It will pull up a website with tons of info and treaments for controlling your flea problem. It is the same chemicals that the exterminators use and is WAY cheaper. (it costs around $20 bucks to treat your whole house) And the best part is that is really works.

The fleas hide in your carpet and lay eggs. Fleas go through four life stages. The problem with cheaper flea control products at the grocery store is that they do not kill all four stages. Some only kill eggs and larvae, and some only kill adult fleas. This is why fleas are so hard to get rid of. But that website will explain how to combine products to completely eliminate your fleas. You can order them anywhere and they will ship them directly to your door. They also have a number you can call if you have any questions or concerns and they will talk you through it.

What you’ll need to do is wash and bleach (if you can) what ever your dog sleeps on. Whether its a blanket, pillow, or doggie bed. Keep it clean. Then vaccuum your carpet daily as you treat for the fleas. To see if you are making progress, put on a pair of white socks and walk around on the carpet. Try to cover as much area as you can. Then look at the bottom of your socks and see how many fleas are on them. You will slowly see them begin to disappear.

It doesn’t happen over night but it will work. I haven’t seen a flea in my house or on a pet in months. Hope this helps

if you put the dog on a program for once a month, he won’t get fleas. So i suggest you do that, that’s what my dog is on.

External parasites can be controlled by these topical products: Advantage (fleas), Frontline (fleas, ticks), Advantix (fleas, ticks, repels mosquitoes). These products can become less effective to various degrees if the dog is bathed or swims a lot.

Comfortis (spinosad), an oral product that is labeled to effectively kill fleas for a month duration.

Use of these products will effectively control flea infestations, making the use of insecticide defoggers or products like flea busters (borate crystals) in the house unnecessary in most cases.

I found a useful information on http://dogtime.com/flea-treatment-kathy-gervais… for your reference. :)

definatley Comfortis would work. it is a flea pill and it comes for all size dogs. It kills fleas within 4 minutes of biting which doesn’t give enough time to lay eggs, when other medications kill the flea within 20 minutes of biting which allows them to lay eggs. It’s really easy to help with fleas- monthly pill. Some techniques I use is to put the pill inside a piece of chicken or cheese so my dog will actually eat the pill and not know it’s there.
