2 things:

1st – after 2days with our new puppy she was ate up with chiggers and mosquitos. The vet put her on amox. drops for some infected gbites from her licking and prednisone for the itching. Okay she’s going to go outside and our yard has been sprayed(which presents a problem with her grass, dirt, rock eating even if they say it’s pet safe). Every time she goes out she comes back with a new bite. Frontline is obviously not the solution and keeping her drugged (we’ve cut that back and are bathing her often to help keep her comfortable)makes for a sleepy thirsty puppy.

2nd – Her eating habits have turned into a chase game. She digs whole patches of grass then eats them. When we try to coax her to us to remove the wad from her mouth the game begins. Last night the wad appread in our living room, kitchen, etc. and an upset tummy today. We’ve had our mini schnauzer for a week and a half. She’s miserable and we want her be a happy pup. So please help us!

If you have a local horse tack store close to you, go there and buy a bottle of Eqyss’ Marigold spray, this is an all natural mosquito, fly, etc. repellant (and will work great for you too). Eqyss also makes a product line called MicroTek which will work great for the itching.

My guess is the amoxicillin is upsetting your pup’s tummy, hence the reason he’s eating grass (and then puking it up). Ask your vet if you can switch him to Simplicef, it’s more effective on skin related issues and not as harsh on the tummy (though it is more expensive). You can also give the little guy a tums or some maalox to help settle his tummy or, even better, a teaspoon or so of pure pumpkin will help immensely as well. I would also put the little guy on a leash when you take him out to do his businss…then there’ will be no game of chase and you can also correct the digging/grass eating behavior as he starts to do it.

Good luck

After posting this I called PetSmart. They suggested Prestrike (fogger). They didn’t reccomend anything else directly on the puppy since she has been treated with Frontline.

I did find Micro Tek at TSC.

And thanks for the leash tip. I had thought about that but wanted her to have a bit of freedom in the fenced backyard since she’s leashed when we venture out front. It worked and it helped keep her in the voiding area that we’ve been trying to train her in. We took a little walk to celebrate and now she’s napping. I feel like I have a 2 year old toddler again. Glad the kids are back in school so we can stay focused. Thanks again
