Dogs can adapt well to the lose of vision and hearing. It is possible that your baby is having kidney failure or in the beginning stages. A good vet can determine if this is the case and make recommendations to help you manage this health issue. My mother’s 13 year old dachshund is having similar issues. Our vet found that she is in the beginning stages of kidney failure. She is now on prescription dog food which has less protien in it and therefore puts less work on her kidneys. She also has a “safe zone” with piddle pads where she is confined when nobody is home to monitor her needs. (diapers did not work for my mother’s dog.) You may very well have more time to enjoy having your pet in your life. But first you need to have a good checkup to know exactly what you are dealing with and what your options are. Many times, with some changes to diet, appropriate medications and modification to routines, you can manage your pet’s health issues. Good luck. I hope this information helped. Valerie |
