I HAVE AN EIGHT YEAR OLD RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK. She is generally very healthy, but last year, while I myself was going through a very bad flare up of Ulcerative Colitis, she also had a lot of problems with Diahhrea and mucous. I treated it with Immodium and it would go away for a while and then come back. In January of this year i went on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, the base of which is home made yogurt fermented 24 hours in order to kill off the Lactose and grow lots of “good” bacteria. I began to feed it to my dog as well and she has had no problems since. I wonder if she has colitis or some other intestinal problem. I cannot afford scopes or any other expensive testing since i am on a very limited budget. Process of elimination and natural treatments I can work with. Can anyone advise me of natural treatments and diets that could help a dog with intestinal problems such as Colitis or IBS or Chron’s? Should I also give her the pro-biotics I take – there is no bifidus in either the yogurt or the pills (on my diet bifidus is not good) there is bulgaris which is good on my diet for me – but i want to make sure it is good for dogs too before I give her any of those supplements.
