Does anyone know of a food or treat that will make my dog’s breath less offensive? It’s REALLY bad!

Liquid chlorophyll (check with you vet to rule out periodontal disease)

Be sure to check your dog’s teeth for tartar buildup. their teeth should be nice and sparkly white, if not the tarter could be a source of the bad breath. If the teeth are really bad your vet can clean his teeth under anesthesia, and then you can start using a water additive, or an oral rinse to keep it from forming again. CET oral rinse and their dental chews work really well.
Also be sure that your dog is getting something crunchy. Dogs tend to not chew their food, instead swallowing the kibble whole. If you provide them with larger kibble, or a crunchy dog cookie that will help alot.

Another source for bad breath can be digestive upset. If your dog is not digesting his food properly it can make for some nasty noxious gas! Being sure you are feeding a high quality diet, and adding probiotics like yogurt can help

Hi Sadie,

You might want to check this page first about dental care for your dogs. Dental care is serious business for your dog, especially since he so often uses his mouth to interact with the world.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I also found a very cool holistic doggie fresh breath formula.

Here’s the recipe:

1/2 ounce base oil (the author recommends hazelnut or sweet almond oil)
6 drops essential oil of Cardamom
4 drops essential oil of Coriander Seed
6 drops essential oil of Peppermint

Mix ingredients well and place blend in a glass bottle with a dropper top. Dispense 1 to 3 drops inside the dog’s mouth.

Personally I’d suggest you get to the bottom of the problem and find out what’s causing it, as opposed to masking the problem with remedies.

Bad breath can be caused by a bad diet. If this is not the case brush your dog’s teeth. If none of this works take him to the vet. He may already have a horrible dental problem.

There are some products found in pet shops for that to feed your dog like breath freshners.
