Please respond! I have Asthma and have a dog for 5 years now and no asthma or allergy symptoms. Cannot find out where the asthma is coming from recently? Can a person be allergic to the dog urine? For some reason the dog started peeing in the house the last few weeks. |

I’m not sure if a urine allergy is the cause. Nor am I sure there even is such a thing. What I do think happens is that when someone owns a pet, the pet (especially cats) walks around in the urine or kitty litter box, the owners picks up the droppings but forgets that the pet still has the germs from the urine on its feet. Bacteria develops and the pet caries it around the house. This is especially true for owners of cats. The owner may change the kitty litter box daily of droppings, but forgets to change the litter itself regularly. The cat uses the box, steps in dried/old urine, then transports those germs via its feet to the owners bed, couches, laps etc. Then the owner wonders why he gets sick. To be sure, try using a desinfectant cleaner when cleaning up urine. I’ve heard that Lysol is the best. Hope this helps. |

The causes of asthma are varied as there are many many allergens out there (stress is also a cause). If you’d had your pet for several years and no asthma except now, then that may not be the cause. Now the pet suddenly peeing in the house can also be a nervous reaction (worry reaction) to your asthma attacks. Pets who are housebroken dont usually pee in the house except when they are afraid or agitated about something. Yes, lysol can help disinfect the area, that’s what I do. Try to identify what changes happened in your house/life immediately before you had your asthma attack to be able to better understand it. Hope all turns out well ! |
