As long as where the hamster is- is out of reach of your doggie….

the hamster should be fine. Reguardless of your dogs size, he is still bigger than the hamster so keep him safe.

Some dogs are more likely to go hamster munching than others. Just be sure that the hamster cage is somewhere the dog can’t get to it. Think like a dog. Is there a chair or a bed nearby he can use to get up on the bookcase to the hamster cage? Dogs can be very creative if they really want something.

My current dog is so predatory she’d move heaven and earth to get to any hamsters no matter where they were. On the other hand, some dogs aren’t necessarily predatory but that still doesn’t make your hamsters safe. Many years back I had a bull terrier who paid very little attention to the hamsters. Maybe he’d lie on the bed very relaxed and watch them go around in their exercise wheel—almost like he was watching a boring TV show. He really didn’t react to them until I would walk over to the cage, talk to them, pet them, whatever. Then he’d go ballistic! So with him it wasn’t predatory—it was sheer jealousy! (Incidentally, he behaved quite the same with other dogs…didn’t get snotty unless he thought you were spending too much time with the other dog and ignoring him.)

Depends on what type of dog you have. Check if they belong to the hunting type of dogs, because these hunters consider hamsters as prey. I think hamsters belong to the rodent family, the hunting dogs may treat hamsters like rodents and chase them for the kill. Not to scare you, but the least that can happen is that your dog will continuously bark at it. Some dogs will not care less though. worth it to check it out before doing anything. Cheers!
