my friend wants to know if dogs with short hair need to be brushed. i’ve mostly had poodles and schnoodles, so i’m really not sure what to tell her. i think she has some sort of mixed breed. |

Well, even short haired dogs shed, and brushing helps cut down on that. I’d go with a soft-bristled brush though. |

First of all, yes, shorthaired dogs need to be brushed. I am a groomer and we groom a lot of shorthaired breeds. They shed as much as any other dog and the dead hair should be removed from the coat so the dog will look its best (And those short prickly hairs won’t be all over your couch). See my response to the shedding Aussie post as the Furminator is perfect for short coated breeds. Bathing the dog in a good quality DOG shampoo followed by a good brushing with a soft slicker of bristle brush will go a long way towards making her dog look and feel his best. Remember that the most importand thing about bathing a dog is to rinse, rinse and then rinse again. |

Regular brushing helps distribute the natural oils in your dog’s fur and skin, keeping her coat healthy and looking its best. Read here for more information. http://dogtime.com/brushing.html |
