I am crate training my 10 week old pyppy. At night, do you feel they should have chew toys in the crate with them or should they be made to associate this as quiet, sleep time, not daytime play? |

one soft toy to keep the little one company also if you can find a cheap wind up clock wrapped in a soft blankie or towel makes it feel like mom’s heart beat is right there. if it helped my hyper lab and border collies calm down for nappies it will help your little one. good luck mommy lots of patience and humor and crate training should go by very shortly. |

Thank you Rosemary for your advice. I decided to give Yummy his soft sock monkey to take to bed with him. He is not an anxious dog, and seems to be crated without difficulty. |

Here are some additional tips for crate training |
|
Be upbeat about putting your dog in his crate, and when you return to let him out, be matter-of-fact about it. If you act like it’s no big deal to be in the crate, your dog is more likely to act that way, too. |

if you want to learn more about making your puppy as comfortable as possible this site has a lot of ideas. http://dogtime.com/topics/337?breaks=2000_4001_… |

Does anyone have any input as to covering the crate, either at bedtime or anytime he is put in? The links dont seem to address the covering issue. Does it make a differance? |

Hi Lulamom! |

Hi Luna, Actually I am Mom to “Yummy”, he is now 3 mo old and is doing well in the crate. I havent covered it and he seems to take well to the limited space. I am an early riser, so I am up before it is light outside, so, I dont knoiw how long he would tolerate the daylight. |
