The heck with breeders. Every specialty has a rescue site on the net. Find the nearest rescue site and adopt a rescue dog. You’ll never regret it. It is a great thing for the breed and the dog world in general. Unless you are planning to show or breed, don’t bother with breeders. Save a rescue dog!!! |

I agree with pkornitsky! I have purebreds and rescues, but do NOT buy a mixed breed who has been bred on purpose! Responsible breeders do NOT breed mutts on purpose. I LOVE shih tzus and Malteses, and there is NO reason to “design” a mix and ruin the 2! |

I also prefer purebreeds. I have a lab and beagles, but my vet says mixed breeds are better dogs as they breed out the specific breed problems. I recently wanted a furry puppy as my brittany spaniel died of old age and had a horrible time trying to find one from a rescue league. They wanted around 300.00 for adoption fees and some had restrictions like no children in the house. I have 6 grandchildren and an 11 year old at home and they are wonderful with my new shih tzu puppy. Our local pet stores said they can’t sell purebreeds, they ‘ve been giving them away as everyone wants designer hybrids. They even have their own registry. I bought from a Mennonite breeder . They only charged 100.00 and the vet said they did everything they should have. I have a wonderful 12 week old imp. If rescue leagues want to adopt pets, they shouldn’t make it so difficult to do so. |

Choosing a purebred is the best way to know what a dog’s looks and personality might be like, although it’s never a guarantee. Check this link. |
