Can anyone give advice on the pros/cons of a Maltitzu? I have a 10 year old with allergies and I hear this mix is good. Want to know whether they are easy to train, temperment, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know about that mix in particular, but I have heard that poodles are good for people with allergies. They can be easy to train too. If you’re looking specifically for a smaller dog, I’ve heard that corgis can be good for people with allergies, but I don’t have personal experience wtih them.

i own a maltese and shes my best friend! She is great with my todders also! my sister owns a shih tzu and shes great too! my sister is very allergic to most animal fur and neither bothers her! as for the mix ive never been around them but i can attest that both breeds really are good for those with allergies!

We resently acquired a Maltitzu puppy. He is a wonderful dog. He is smart and learns quickly. At first I thought barking was going to be an issue, but after working with him, he barks when someone comes to the door then he is fine after I call him off. He learns tricks to He loves to dance on his hind legs. My son has really bad allergies also. He has not had any attacks. I have tried to expose him to as many kinds of people as possible. I am glad I did. The dog not my son. HA HA hope this helps

Please get either a Maltese OR a shih tzu, not a mix. Responsible breeders do NOT breed mutts! Both are supposed to be good for allergy sufferers, but my brother says his kids are allergic to my shih tzu. (Maybe he just doesn’t like dogs….) Don’t put money into “breeders” pockets when they are purposely breeding mixed breeds when there are millions of dogs dying in shelters!

I have had allergies since I was young. I am now 43 and it just gets worse. I am only allergic to short haired cats and dogs. Not dogs as much, but I can’t even be in a room with a siamese cat. My allergist says it’s because they have a dander in their fur that sheds with their hair. I have a lab in the house and she doesn’t bother me too bad, but I got a shih tzu puppy a month ago and he doesn’t bother me at all. My shih tzu book says they don’t shed, so I guess that ‘s why. I don’t have a problem with mixed breeds, my vet says they are better than purebreeds because they breed specific problems are bred out. And although I bought my puppy frrom a Mennonite breeder, I did try rescue leagues first and they wanted over 300.00 in adoption fees. I only paid 100.00 for mine , Some of them even had other restrictions, such as no children in the house. I have 6 grandchildren and an 11 year old at home. I feel if they want to find homes for these dogs, they shouldn’t make it so hard to adopt one.
