Does anybody have pictures about how to groom a Goldendoodle? My doodle is not as curly as the one in the dogtime picture. Thanks!

Your Goldendoodle’s may not be as curley as the one in the dogtime picture due to genetics. Goldendoodles are still concidered hybred dogs and are still being perfected. Depending on if your dog is the offspring of a Golden/Poodle match the litter can have puppies that more poodle like fur, more Golden like fur, or a combination. If your Goldendoodle is the offspring of a Goldendoole/Golden match you will still get a litter with a combination of coats, the same applies if your Goldendoodle is the offspring of a Goldendoodle/Poodle match. Even if your Goldendoodle is the offspring of Goldendoodle/Goldendoodle match you can have a combination of coat depending which gene is dominate. It takes time and some knowledge of genetics to produce a new breed. To give you an example my Goldador (which until I joined dogtime, I have always called a Golden ret/Lab mix) Looks more like a Golden than a Lab, but not a purebred of either breed, her sister looked just like a yellow Lab, and her brothers look just like Goldens. I hope this has helped.

With a mixed breed, there is no one answer on how to groom- especially if one is a poodle! Take your dog to a professional groomer, and they can give you advice based on YOUR dog, not dog, and not a standard lab or poodle.

ivycat, there is no way to “perfect” mutts. Breeding mixes is irresponsible, and saying “goldador” means you accepting this new “designer” fad, which are only over priced mutts.

I’m sorry cherha01 but why would breeding mixes be irresponsible??? Obviously it was by mixing breeds that the current breeds were made. The reason why we personally chose a mixed breed and not a “pure” breed was because we wanted a mutt but one with certain predictable characteristics. If you ever meet a Goldendoodle and allow yourself to have an open mind, you will understand what wonderful companions these dogs are. You have the right to your own opinion but please don’t judge other dog owners who think different. Thanks!

LOL Luna!!!

NO, there are no reasons to breed mixes to create a new breed. Long ago, they were bred for a PURPOSE— like hunting, working, herding, etc. Now, they are only for money. With MILLIONS of homeless dogs everywhere, it is irresponsible to create “new breeds” when most are dumped off to be euthanized. Many purebreds AND mixes are euthanized every single day due to breeding!
