Is she by any chance white/grey/black? My male has a all white female mother and I’ve read they are both more prone to fear ad anxiety. Mine is very fearful also.

Daily walks of at least an hour and daily mental exercise by making her work for food and affection will help tremendously. When walking her try not to anticipte the old behavior but rather focus your mind on the behavior you want and be calm and assertive while walking. Be the leader and show her that she does not need to fear because you are her leader and will take care of her. Hope this helps!

White GSDs are no more prone to anxiety then any other colour, it can work in their favour as they make “cute cuddly” puppies so are normally better socialised!

Roose24, how old is your female and how long have you had her?

THERE ARE MANY REASONS FOR A SCARED DOG. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS A DOG THAT BITES OUT OF FEAR. LOTS OF CONFIDENCE AND ENCOURAGEMENT WORKS WITH DOGS THAT ARE TAUGHT TO BE AFRAID. HOPEFULLY, FEAR IS NOT PART OF HER CHARACTERISTICS. GIVE HER LOTS OF LOVE AND PATIENCE. IF SHE IS A PUP, SHE COULD GROW OUT OF IT. COLOR HAS NO BARING ON DOGS WITH FEAR. ALSO BE AWARE THAT YOUR DOG TAKES A CUE FROM YOU. IF YOU ARE SCARED, THE DOG WILL SENSE THIS AND BE SCARED TOO. BE CONFIDENT! GOOD LUCK

I just got a German Shepherd 3 weeks ago. She is roughly around 5-7 years old. She is quite fearful herself. Most of the time her tail is between her legs and her ears are back. It’s like pulling teeth to get her exited or playful. I’m battling this myself but I truly believe the first reply was correct (besides the color thing) I’m am in process of trying envolady’s methods. Just started yesterday and I know it will take a while to get through to her. Just be patient and assertive.
