My niece is interested in a dalmation who happens to be deaf. Does anyone have experience with dogs who can’t hear? I’d like to give her some advice, but not discourage her. |

I resuced a deaf dalmatian, Chance, from the local animal shelter. He is a great dog. He is very friendly to everyone and to other dogs. I am trining him with hand signals and a vibrating collar. Just make sure you can find a trainer with experience working with a deaf dog. A deaf dog takes a little getting used to so you don’t startle them, such as waking them up before you leave the house, so they aren’t scared, also making sure they see you or feel your vibrations when you come up to them. It is a little more work, but they are definatley worth it. |
