My family is trying to convince me to get a Boston Terrier. I have never seen one. Are they “yippie”, high strung dogs? They sound good on paper but I need convincing (or not). Please help!

Hi Lori,

Boston Terriers are gentle and affectionate companions. To see an overview of what Boston terriers are like, you can visit the site Dia told you to do so.

They can be high strung, but my 3 arent. They also do not have a yippie bark. My 3 very rarely bark unless they see a stranger or an animal in the yard. I will always have one now that I have owned at least one for 8 years. They have been the best dogs I have ever had. They don’t require a lot of care as far as cleaning, and they don’t require a lot of exercise.

As the saying goes: Bostons are like potato chips, you can’t have just one. Or more likely you’ll want more than one. I have FOUR! 3 males and 1 female. I just love them. ( I’ve had labs, springers, collies, mutts and the Bostons are best.) They are very lovable, cuddlly dogs. Great with kids, and love people. They can be feisty once in awhile but that’s just part of their personality, don’t mistake it for meanness. Their personality differs from dog to dog but so do people, and I much prefer my Bostons over most people. They love to play, but when the day is done they will want to snuggle in your bed with you. These are definitely dogs that want to be with their people, not left alone outside. They are a joy to come home to, but make sure you do some training with them or they will find mischief while your gone. Overall they are easy dogs to have and will bring you lots of laughs and love.

Lori,

Hi! Nina in NC here. I have a 10 month old female boston and my husband (who is not a dog person) has fallen madly in love with her.

I grew up around Bostons so let me give you some info to help you make an informed decision.

Bostons are:

Very smart so training goes fast. They are stubborn though so you have to be dilligent.

They are very very affectionate. You will get full on face kisses all the time, so be prepared.

They are sooo funny, they will keep you laughing all the time, lil jokers.

They are people and pet friendly. Sophia loves play dates with my mothers’ Cocker spaniel.

Grooming is a cinch. I bathe Sophia once a week, brush her and clip her toenails twice a month thats it.

They like to travel. (at least all the bostons ive known love to ride.)

Hope this info helps, goodluck!

Boston Terriers are a great breed! I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. I’d read up on them as much as possible before you get one though, here’s some help…

Good Luck!
