i am 17 years old and only 5’3 and 120 pounds. since i’m 17, i probably wont get much bigger. i like the look of a bull mastiff, and i have handled one b4, but my boss is a highly experienced veterinarian, and she says that i will never be able to control a bull mastiff because of my small size, even if i start small. what do u think?

I disagree with your boss (all respect to him). Though you may need some help initially to show it that you are the boss, once this is establised you should be fine. My friend has a French Mastiff (140 lbs and still growing) and his 5 year old daughter can walk him down the street with no problem. It’s more about state of mind than it is about size of body.

Your boss is completely incorrect. As long as you show the dog from day one that you are the boss, aka the pack leader, you will be able to control it. I would highly recommend checking on Cesar Milan’s two books, Be The Pack Leader and Cesar’s Way, they are very informative and have helped me a lot. Of you could just watch his show on National Geographic.

No no no, do not read cesar milan’s stuff, he is an entertainer, not a dog trainer, he even has a disclaimer on his show(do not try this at home)

You do need to show him who is boss, not physically, like cesar likes to do, basic training is a great way to start, make him sit and stay before you feed him, set rules and boundaries, like no jumping on the couch, and be consistent with it, do not try to hold him down by his neck or kick him in his side like cesar…lmao

MANY breeds are too strong for humans too control physically, like pitbulls, dobermans, mastiffs, they can pull around any guy, i highly doubt your boss can take a bullmastiff lmao, it all depends on the training

I have a 55kg year and 4 month old Bullmastiff. My 17 kg 3 yr old daughter tells her to sit, heel and lie and she does it. If you give them love coupled with strict training they are wonderful calm caring dogs.

actually, my boss doen’t think i’m too small for a bull mastiff, she just thinks i need more experience before i get one.
