We are in the process of researching puppies to add to our family. We were pretty much set on a Pug puppy until I learned of their shedding. Any information would be helpful, How much does this dog shed? Thank you |

Hi! I have a 8 month old pug, and she sheds A LOT! I was warned by others that pugs shed a lot, but I didn’t believe it until I experienced it. I have to admit that it is annoying to have hairs all over me all the time and in my car, my rugs, etc., but she is SO worth it. Trust me, this is probably the only negative aspect of owning a pug. They are adorable, fun, smart dogs! Click on my user name to view the pics of my pug, and you will never choose another breed ! :) |

I have a 10 year pug and he sheds bad. We were told he has an undercoat different than other pugs I have seen but my husband uses a rubber brush on him that gets underneath and gets rid of a lot of the hair. But I agree with Jessica….pugs are so worth it! They are the best dogs. The rewards are so much more. I will always be a pug mamma! |

you can reduce shedding significantly by feeding 1/2 to 1 tsp flax seed oil daily on their food. |

Pugs are playful dogs, ready and able for games, they are also lovers. Pugs love to be the center of attention. They were bred to be companions, and that’s exactly what they do best. The coat is short and smooth, but don’t be deceived. Pugs shed like crazy, especially in summer. Check this link for more information. |

I have had 2 Pugs, a fawn and a black. The fawn would shed quite a bit (5/10), but the black one, not so much (1-2/10). |

Ameckley’s right. Fawn (the light ones with black masks) have a double coat (2 coats) while black pugs only have 1 coat and shed less, but they still shed A LOT! I’ve always had cats and dogs so I’m used to having them all in my clthes and bed and everywhere. THe only remedy is too brush regularly and bathe every 2-3 weeks. |

I Love my pug Destinee so much she is the best little dog ever. Ever since we have moved to Alaska she has been shedding so much it is just crazy. If anyone knows what I might be able to do to help me please email me at julvinhut@yahoo.com. |

Bogie's Mom
1 post |
I am the proud mother of a 3 1/2 year old black pug named Bogie. It is true that black pugs shed much less than the fawn ones, and compared to many other breeds his shedding is hardly noticeable. I have had multiple other dog breeds over the years that were big time shedders and I can’t say his shedding bothers me much (unless you have all white furniture, then that’s a problem). If you are meant for a pug you will know it when you see them; being a “pug person” is a breed unto itself! |
