My Pom,11 week old Oscar and I go round and round about going outside to the Uh, bathroom. I first pad trained him fairly well and now he thinks that he’s only supposed to go in the house, I think. He acts like he is afraid to go outside now except to pee. and I cannot get him to poop outside yet. Now I know that he is a hard breed to housetrain and that he is stubborn but he is so sweet otherwise and seems to want to please me. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Jeannie |

They get used to going on the material that serves as their toilet, so sounds like your Pom is hesitant to use anything but the pads. |

to pomerainian lover: This is absolutely no way to housetrain a dog by the use of those corrections you posted. And as for housetraining, because you first trained to “go” inside on the wee pads, you now have to “retrain” to “go” outside. It is now going to take awhile. My opinion is to potty train to use the outdoors from the getgo and in the same “potty spot” all the time. It may take some time now, but you may be able to retrain her. Depends now on the dog since now she is used to going indoors. Unless a person is disabled or for some other good reason, in my opinion, I am not very fond of the wee wee pads. It seems that those are for lazy people who don’t want to take their puppy out at 3 in the morning or in bad weather. Hey, taking a pup out at 3 in the morning does have some advantages. It’s quiet, the moon is shining, and hey, you might even see a shooting star!! I did. And, your dog will thank you for it. Live and Learn. |
