To be honest, I’m not sure if your cousin should pick a Min Pin, but it all comes done to her. Min Pins aren’t the most compatable with children, espesscially younger children. One way to find is, list down the ones your cousin has a particular interest in and then go from there. Research the breeds throughly, and go by process of elimination. Your cousin could also ask around people who have Min Pins, vets, responsible breeders, etc. If your cousin still has her mind set on that breed, I’d reccommend to wait a few more years until her daughter has grown up some more. I hope I’ve helped, Raspberries. |

I have 3 Min Pins, Iam 65 years old, but have grandchildren and neighbors, of all ages. My dogs were raised my me alone. They all love children. My oldest Taz, mothers everything. I baby set for my neighbors child once in a while, because the little girl is out of her own surrounding, she will not go to bed so we make her a bed on the livingroom floor, she falls asleep watching TV with us. My dog Taz gets up next to her lays her head on the childs back or chest and sleeps with her this has been going on for years. This started when the little girl was under a year old, she is going to be 6 in July. I am very careful with my dgs around childern, don’t think they would ever hurt one, but I beleive if the child mistreats the dog he will defend it’s self. Therefore I never leave them alone. I do beleive with the temperment of my dogs, if the dog was raised with a child. There wouldn’t be a problem. Because of the way my dogs react to childern, my brother got a Min Pin puppy. He also has a 3 year old daughter. This has worked out very well, the dog is very protective of the child. Has never gotten agressive with her, although he has nipped a stranger in the pet store, whom approach my niece. The frist thing my veterinarian said to me when I took my dogs in to see his was " and what do you think of there nasty temperments"???? This may be the norm, but I have yet to see it. My 5 year old male does have to be muzzled when taken to the vet. but this is the same dog that sleeps with the little girl next door he cuddles up on the other side from of her with Taz on her right he is on the left. |

Overall they are not known for their fondness of children but there are exceptions to every rule. My min pin, Lucy, lives with 4 children from the ages of 5 months to 14 years of age. She was given to my youngest son as a present when he was less than a year old. They grew up together and love eachother so much. I think it depends on the individual dogs’ personality. The best way for her to go would probably be to adopt an older one from rescue- what you see is what you get temperment wise and most rescues know each dogs’ individual personality. Good Luck! We love our min pin and couldn’t be happier with her! |
