hi. my maltese is not very interested in treats, but she needs obedience training. i hired a trainer who says she uses a variety of methods, including cesar millan’s and ian dunbar’s. i like the idea of incorporating different methods, but now i’m a little nervous, what with all the cesar millan controversy. i love dunbar’s approach, but i’m skeptical it will work because my baby’s not a treat eater. |

Just because she isn’t into treats doesn’t mean you can’t train her with positive methods. Use toys, belly rubs, playtime, getting to meet another dog while you are on a walk, etc. Chances are, you will eventually find a treat she likes anyway. Make sure she is eating one or twol meals a day, not eating free-choice. Experiment with treats. Be creative. Some dogs love tiny pieces of pretzel or plain cheerios with garlic. My Cocker learned 19 tricks with a tennis ball! |
