A long time ago there was a movie called Lassie and the caretaker of the kennel said he mived linseed oil with meal for a shiier coat. I use canola oil on my dogs food.. I cook with it so its got to be ok. I bought the wrong food instead of mini chunks I bought reg chunks in size and iit lasts forever so I can't throw it out (TOO expensive so I pour oil over their food and mix it up and they love it. They lick the oil right off my hands. As long as I ust this oil their bowl movements are fine so I use it every day.
“I've had experience with constipated pups in 4 of 9 litters. First make sure that feces isn't trapped in the hair surrounding the anus. Sometimes, old feces will dry there and build up causing a blockage. In order to remove the stuck feces, one must place either a comb between the hair and feces and cut the fecal matter from the outside of the comb so that no skin will be damaged. Have someone to hold its tail up and make sure you are wearing gloves and a mask if you wish,. It takes some time and patients. Afterward trim the fur away from anus and rear so that when pup/adult defecates, it falls freely. One can also run water over the fecal matter; this takes more time.
I'm really making a long story short. Once I had some newborns, one of my students noted that one was breathing differently. Upon examination, there were two of the five. I watched and noted they weren't able to defecate even with their mother's manipulation. I took them all to the vet who said they were too young to be helped. That evening another demonstrated the same symptoms. I saw another vet who agreed with the first. Not accepting his answer, I went on line to a couple of vets who said the same thing. I had to pay a small fee, but you do what you must in efforts to help your children. Yes, they are my children too. I still felt there had to be something I could do but what? Their tiny chests were concave as they struggled to breathe. I couldn't bear the thought of losing them..not one. This was also my first litter. I got my students together and we prayed over the pups for God's help and asked Him to guide me in what to do.
A friend shared my problem with said treat them like a human baby. Give them an enema. I went to Walgreens and purchased baby enema inserts and Mineral Oil. I cut the inserts down and molded them down to size rounding the tips. My friend came over and we went to work. We inserted and held in for about a minute. Pups started eliminating immediately or within the next minute. Afterward I gave them 1/2 mm of mineral oil twice a day. Like their mother, I fed them every two hours religiously for nearly weeks, while their mother watched with front paws on my thy. Where our Chee Chee would whine over her pups, she now seemed calm. I knew everything was going to be well.
I fed them with a syringe both infant puppy formula until they were full, then water. I physically manipulated their genital areas and watched them eliminate both liquid and solid waste before starting on another. Once complete, I placed them back with their mother, my baby. My husband would wake up and come in to the dining room. He'd stand there for a while and watch then say, "You really love those pups, don't you." He said, "You take care of them just like you do the kids, aren' t you tired." I'd just say, "No", and keep doing what I was doing. Funny thing, I was never tired during the day. After a couple of weeks the symptoms were gone. The pups were perfect and oh so beautiful. No more problems.
If you haven't heard of mineral oil, put it on your list. No prescription needed, and it works every time. The dose depends on the weight of the animal. My dogs are Shih Tzus. Mineral oil also makes for a shiner coat. Later I found that the father we mated our baby with had the same problem as a pup. The Mineral Oil works. We use Mineral Oil with all of our pups now, to avoid any type of constipation. Unless there is some other underlying problem, MINERAL OIL WORKS. But make sure your dogs are paper trained or you take the out often because the mineral oil WORKS.
The vet have nothing over the power of God working through others and mother wit.
I hope this information finds its way to those who need it.
“Hi my dog is constipated. She went to the vet and he recommended a laxative, parraffin oil and 72 days monitoring. This is the second day and she has not passed any stool. I'm so terrified...I cried. What can I do?”

“RE Constipation: Our 20 lb min-Snauzer has had constipation problems for about two weeks.
We're feeding her IAMS "Pro active Health, mini chunks". We started mixing the dry with canned; adding a level tsp of Metamucil; and adding a little EVOO. All these things have loosened her stool....but...she's still straining. And, sometimes doesn't "pinch off" well, leaving poop around her anus; and I then have to take a hose to her to clean it off. She's about 12 yrs old. She's not "complaining"; doesn't seem to be in distress otherwise. We would GREATLY appreciate some help!”

“If your dog is constipated and uncomfortable and you want instant relief - ask your pharmacist about liquid paraffin. I was fortunate last night to go to a pharmacy and when I asked the chemist about relief for my Rottweiler he recommended Liquid Paraffin as he was a breeder of Rottweilers. My Rottie is her old self again this morning! ”
