Comments: The dog trainer's trainer

AvatarWow, can you say "bitter"? Whoever wrote this was obviously trying to sound positive about Ian Dunbar while taking potshots at Millan. Ian, whoever wrote this for you didn't do a very good job; the bitterness and jealousy is obvious to all. My advice, as a writer in the ad agency for the past 15 years, is to get a new PR rep. This only makes you look bad. To top it off, you fail to recognize that some training approaches work better with SOME dogs, but not with others. Reward training is hardly new...and hardly a cure-all. By claiming in this article that it's your way or the highway, you actually do more chest thumping than Millan ever does...he's actually very open to multiple ways of dealing with issues. Reward training doesn't always work with the type of dog Cesar specializes in: dominant/aggressive.” — bretpk, Aug 03 2008

AvatarSigh. Grow up! — af_loser, Aug 03 2008

AvatarI think it is very low to discredit someone in order to make someone else look better... Sadly, this article, instead of making us get curious about the work of Ian Dunbar, makes us feel that someone is jealous about the success of someone else. There are always different techniques to do things, Cesar Millan is very good at what he does, as possibly Ian Dunbar is too. I'm not sure who wrote this article but you took the wrong path!! ” — martinetmarina, Aug 02 2008

AvatarThis article is so distasteful, pathetic and sounds like somebody is a loser. Why in the world bash another trainer on a site where you say you want the best for dogs? Any type of training/ education to improve a dogs life should be supported. This almost reads like somedoy is jealous and can't stand that Cesar has the attention that Ian doesn't have. If i would be dogtime, I would not play into thee kind of unfriendly and uneccesary articles and take it off. It makes me not like this website. All people that do something good for dogs should be commended, if you like thier method or not. Shame on you! I'm not recommending this site anymore, I'm deleting if from my bookmark. you were also wrong in picking the dog for me. I have my 3rd Boxer and you didn't even have them in my top 100? On de contrary, your site advised against them, hahahaha” — hendrika25, Aug 02 2008

AvatarYou anonymous arrogant idiots the statement "the people who really count -- other dog experts" is so telling about where you are coming from. Afterall some guy who spent his time observing and actually DOING the work is so inferior to an academic who knows so much from reading books and theorizing from ivory towers. You have to protect all that time, money and energy you put into the whole academic heirarchy and "peer review" process. I have nothing but disgust for people like you. I'm so pissed off by this that I can't even respond in a logical measured way at this point. Mr. Dunbar and his methods are probably great, but the way that you have presented this by pitting him agaisn't Ceasar Milan does him no favor.

AvatarI love Cesar Millan! I hope one day he sees every dog owner in the world and we will all have a balanced life!” — misschrnc, Aug 01 2008

AvatarShame on dogtime for the publication of these baseless accusations against Mr. Millan! Plus, some very funny alternatives to Mr. Millan's evil "punishment" methods. Dog training Ghandi-style, as suggested by Ms. Geller above? What are you going to do? Go on hunger strike until your dog stops growling at you? Good luck with that. :o)

This article is a desperate try to completely exaggerate Mr. Millan's ways out of proportion to make him look like a fool. I was most amused by the allergic reaction of the author, obviously an authority-obedient disciple of academic honors, to the "farmboy" lacking formal education. I guess the concluding sentence "HE ISN"T EVEN FROM ROUND HERE!!!" fell prey to a merciful editor?

From my viewings of his show: Mr. Millan is very outspoken against "punishment" of dogs. He corrects in ways that do not physically hurt or intimidate. He makes that a very important point when explaining his techniques. The result: he clearly communicates to dogs that a certain behaviour is not wanted without anger, without "punishment". How do you do that to a highly aggressive dog with lure-reward?

I have never heard Mr. Millan say anything about wolves in his show. He has a DOG-pack that he works with, not a wolf-pack.

I don't know Mr. Dunbar and his training methods. His approach seems to focus on training puppies, which I consider very valuable. Mr. Millan rehabilitates cases where training has failed and solutions sometimes need to be found quickly in order to keep a dog from being put down.

While his methods seem valuable, Mr Dunbar's well documented personal smear campaign against Mr. Millan does not make him look like a man of high integrity.

I am disappointed in dogtime publishing this article smearing somebody who has rescued a lot of dogs most people had given up on.

You are making a dog-lover's successful work harder! Shame on you!” — TMH, Aug 01 2008

The whole article is full of the wildest, most absurd accusations against Mr. Millan. The typical try to completely exaggerate somebody's ways out of context to make him look like a fool. Mr. Millan has rescued a lot of dogs that would have been put down without his intervention. That should be a reason to celebrate and not to write an anonymous rant. It makes the author of this artikle look like a jealous coward.

AvatarSimply put....Cesar is the best. His show is one of the most watched on cable, and his methods and products are followed by most dog owners and trainers I know. ” — songbyrd57, Aug 01 2008
