Comments: Purebred or mixed breed?

Avatarwe have both a purebreed lab and a mixed lab both great dogs we got the lab from a breader and we got the mixed lab from a shelter” — fromano76, Mar 17 2009

AvatarYou need "papers" and a responsible breeder. Yes, those AKC papers DO make a difference! Buying a purebred dog from a RESPONSIBLE breeder WILL guarantee certain health benefits, as they tested their dogs BEFORE breeding to make sure they aren't passing on genetic defects like my first dog had. My poor little pup suffered for her irresponsible breeders neglagence in breeding. It could have been prevented.

I adopted my other 2 dogs, both purebreds. They are both so different from each other, because they are different dogs. One has medical problems, the other doesnt. It's due to BREEDING, not whether or not it's a purebred or mixed breed! ” — cherha01, Nov 12 2008

AvatarI really do not care if our newest rescue is pure or mixed. Would like t know what you think from his pc. He is a lover. Thinks he is a lap dog and the sweetest pup I have ever trained through the puppy stage...

Murphy_thumbnailIf you want a purebred, you can still adopt if you're willing to take an adolescent or adult (you won't find purebred puppies in shelters). About 25% of shelter dogs are purebreds, and there are rescue groups for just about every breed. ” — Grace, Dec 04 2007
